Places I'd love to visit before I die

This post was inspired by a blog post I just read by The Madtexter about his trip to Mykonos.  It reminded me that someday, I want to visit Greece, among other places.  Thanks, Corey!

There are so many places around the world and, indeed, within our own borders, that I'd really love to visit before I die.  Hopefully, I'll have a good 30 years or so to complete this mission.

Ireland

The land of my ancestors.  I was supposed to go to Ireland with my 3 sisters in 2006.  After a November 2004 weekend trip to New York City with my sisters, we decided to try to do a trip every few years.  So Ireland was chosen and we had a year or so to get the funds together.  A month after we decided this, all the craziness that was my marriage falling apart happened.  A couple of months later, my friend, Tina asked me to go on a cruise with her (therapy).  I totally forgot about Ireland and started saving for a Caribbean cruise (aka best vacation I ever took).  There was no way I could save for 2 trips and the cruise was already booked (Ireland was not booked at the time).  So I missed out  on the Ireland trip.  Someday I'll get there.

Alaska

John spent 4 years in Alaska when he was in the Army.  When he learned he was to be stationed at Ft. Richardson, he did everything he could to get out of it, but to no avail.  Not long after arriving in Alaska, he signed up for an extra year.  John has promised to show me Alaska and I'm holding him to it.  We'd like to do a Cruise/tour and spend 2 weeks.  I'm afraid I won't want to come back (which is funny because I keep saying I'm moving to NC or SC to get away from the cold and snowy winters of PA)

Southwestern United States

Every time I see pictures of Arizona and New Mexico, I fall in love with the sunsets.  .  And Texas and Colorado.  I have no desire to visit Las Vegas though.

Hawaii

Well, it's Hawaii!!  It looks so exotic and lush!  And besides, I might get to meet Pseudo (and learn her real name in the process!)

The Rockies

John would love to take a train trip through the Rockie Mountains.  He saw a show about it on the travel channel once and it sounds intriguing.  I want to see the Grand Canyon.   So maybe after Alaska, we could do this!

Greece

I read a few books in the past year or so that took place in Greece.  And the pictures of Greece that I've seen, with the blue waters and the stark white buildings looks so beautiful that I really want to see it with my own eyes.  I like ancient history too, so seeing the Acropolis and other places would be cool!

Canada

As close as I am to my Northern neighbors (or neighbours as they say), I'm sad to say I've never been there.  After watching the Olympics this past winter, I really want to see some of the places they showed.  That's one thing I love about watching the Olympics.  They do stories about all the wonderful places to visit when you go to a certain country.   And maybe I'll get to meet some of my Canadian blogging friends!

New England

The only times I've been to New England were short weekend trips.  I hung out with online friends in CT, but we didn't really go anywhere.  And my brother got married in MA, and we were too busy to do any sightseeing.

I want to go to Martha's Vineyard and go whale watching.  I want to see Nantucket and Cape Cod.  John's brother lives in ME and we've talked about going to visit his family up there.  I want to see old fishing villages.
(I think I really like beaches now... didn't used to)

The Caribbean

The places I saw on my cruise with Tina (St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts and St. Thomas) made me want to get a place to live on a beach somewhere.  The ocean breezes, the white sand.  I wish I could retire and just enjoy an easy life in a beach community.  sigh.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, there you have it.  My traveling wish list.  I'm sure I can expand on that even more.  I do hope that I can cross many (or all) of those places off my list in the years to come!
You will love a cruise to Alaska. It's absolute paradise. We went five years ago and thought it was breathtakingly beautiful. The train through the Rockies is on my "to-do" list. I hear it's fabulous.
I hope you get to see all these places and more. You deserve it!
This was a nice post to come back to after my vacation (we didn't go anywhere near as fabulous as these places). I'm off to read your older posts to catch up.
hi, i know you don't know me. i am a traveler myself even though i am only 13. i have been many places (like australia, california,etc.). all the places you want to go to sound fantastic. i actually like right next to (almost on them, im so close) to the rocky mountains. They are actually quite beautiful. I would very much encourage you to go there! I also researched Canada and Hawaii (and I know people who have been there) and they as well seem amazing. And I heard you have been to New York? That is also a place I have been dying to go to. (I am a city kind of girl) another place that is beautiful is Paris. When I turn 15 i am going to buy myself a plane ticket to go there. You should see it, it's so pretty. Well, thanks for your time!
Sincerely,
Samantha
Interesting idea for a post. You have a few of the places I would love to see. It's funny, hubby and i went all over the U.S., but never really got to stop and really visit places.
I really do hope you get to do all on your list.
NEW ALBANY INDIANA HERE. Seeing Indiana mentioned THREE TIMES NOW, I think it should be on your wish list.
If I could wave a wand and just "appear" anywhere, I think it would have to be Italy. I just want to eat my way from one border through to the other border.
And Canada? Isn't it a shame we are neighbors but few of us go there? I think they basically don't want us to begin with.
It's easier to run barefoot into America from Mexico than it is to get inside Canada.
Maybe they've got it right. lol
No Dana,we love it when you come and visit. Visit and spend those Yankee dollas!
Hey. You could take a cruise ship from Vancouver to Alaska and the come back and take a train from Vancouver to the Canadian Rockies and cross three things off your list.
