Happy Birthday, John!!

John, boogying with my daughter, Gina at my niece's wedding two weeks ago

Today is John's 57th birthday!  There was a time when we didn't know if he'd make his 55th or 56th or 57th birthday.  With his stubborn aggressive Lymphoma making unwanted appearances over and over, we weren't sure how much time John had left on this earth.  But this tough retired paratrooper wasn't going to let a little thing like cancer stop his life!  See that picture just above?  That was taken on October 10, just 42 days after receiving a stem cell transplant and 48 days after receiving a very high dose of chemo for 5 days straight.  On September 21, just one month to the day after he entered the hospital for transplant, he was back to work, full-time.  He's one tough old bird and I'm absolutely convinced he's going to outlive all of us!  A PET scan in about a month will tell us if the transplant worked.

So, here's to you, John!   You are the love of my life, the reason I smile all the time now.  I hope I get to spend the next 30 years with you, with an option to renew.  Besides, you promised to show me Alaska in all its glory someday. I love you with all my heart!

I would like to join the many others extending a very happy birthday to John and to thank him and you for being such an inspiration to all of us. You have shown humor and bravery in your fight against your cancer and given us all hope! May you have a million more HEALTHY birthdays ahead...many trips, many other weddings to go to and hugs for each other.
