So long, Farewell, Aufwiederzehn, Adieu

Breyers Cherry Vanilla ice cream, Breyers Butter Almond ice cream, Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby, Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia, Cold Stone Creamery.

Potato chips, pretzels, tortilla chips, nachos.

BK Whoppers, french fries, cheeseburgers, hotdogs with mustard;

Steak, mashed potatoes, homefries, spare ribs.

White bread, cheetohs, cheezits, steak rolls, other kinds of rolls.

Hoagies, cheesesteaks, pizza, stromboli.

Chicken fingers with honey mustard.

Margaritas, Yellowtail Merlot, Captain Morgan Spiced rum, Tropical Berry Mojitos, Ultimate Tropical Berry Daiquiris.

Raisins, grapes, pineapple.

Cake, pies, donuts, brownies, muffins, bagels, English muffins, cupcakes.

Tastycakes, Easter candy, Halloween candy, Christmas goodies.

Pasta, lasagna, baked ziti, garlic bread, Texas Toast.

This is a wake, a viewing. I am saying goodbye to all the foods I love and can no longer have, except, perhaps, in very small quantities, and on rare occasions.

I better lose some fucking weight.

** Note: This list of forbidden foods is not because I'm on a diet, although I hope that some weight loss will occur as a result of my not indulging in these foods any more. Last week I was diagnosed with diabetes and these foods can raise my blood sugar levels. So, I have to say goodbye to quite a few of them and enjoy some sparingly.

I'll go into mourning for you. Good luck - it'll be hard, but you'll feel better without it.

you've lost me with the raisens, grapes and pineapple. Please God don't tell me that stuff is bad for you too.

Joanie -- You are totally depressing me. But I did sign up for a diabetes education class. It starts in May, so I can be oblivious until then, right?

Jessica, raisins, grapes and pineapple are too high in sugar. I put 1/2 cup of raisins in my oatmeal and it was the equivalent of my carb "rations" for that meal!
And most tropical fruits are very high in sugar.

Amy, uh... sure! :)

Well, if you put it THAT way...

Listen to me my dear adorable friend... you only think your life is going to be miserable without the stuff on that list, but I'm living proof you can kiss it goodbye and still be happy with the yummy healthy food you can have. I know, what planet am I from, right? But seriously, Joanie, once you begin shedding a few pounds and feeling wonderfully, you will be happier about your progress and health than miserable about what you've given up. If you choose to lose weight with Weight Watchers (like me), it's very flexible and you can make room for the things you love most - on occasion. Chianti is my vice, but you know what? Since I've been losing weight I don't even really want it that much anymore. I allow myself a glass or two on the weekends if I've had a good week and that gives me something to look forward to - but more and more I'm skipping it altogether. I guess I just don't feel that deprived. If, in my mind, I know I can have it whenever I want, it doesn't make me crave it so much. Weird, I know. But I have lost 40 pounds in 2-1/2 months just by sticking with the plan and walking my ass around the neighborhood every day for 90 minutes. It works man - and I am truly enjoying the diet.

If you need me for support or encouragement, I'm here for you morning, noon, and night. Email me and I'll give you my home number.

YOU CAN DO IT and I'm proud of you for burying your bad food habits.

Congratulations.

Alix, I'm not saying goodbye to these foods because I want to lose weight (although I DO want to lose weight). I'm doing it because of my diabetes diagnosis and these foods (and beverages) will raise my blood sugar levels. (I was just trying to put a little humorous spin on it)

The reality of the fear of losing my eyesight or my feet or my legs and my kidneys is enough to make me stick to eating foods that are healthy for me and staying away from foods that are poison for me.

Actually I'm supposed to sign up for a diabetes education and nutrition class. I already know a lot of what I'm supposed to avoid. Wine and other alcohol products are verboten for now. I have easily cut a lot of sugar out of my diet a long time ago. The carbs are a bigger problem for me. I'd rather eat bread than any other food in the world!

My doctor also wants me to exercise 40 minutes a day, 4 times a week. Now that my bronchitis is nearly gone, I can probably start working out again. Anything strenuous (even a fast paced walking) would put in my a coughing fit.

But I will check out the online weight watchers program. I'll do it tonight, I promise!

Your list is a good start. Print it off and put it on your bathroom mirror to see each morning! Good luck.

If you lose weight, will you have to do the medicine?

I just started a diet. We'll see how it goes...

Joanie said...

Janie, it's very possible I could stop taking the meds, but I haven't seen any kind of change in my numbers so far.

Garret, you don't like skinny bitches? It'll take me a long time to get slim. I probably need to lose 100 lbs.
