I HATE MY BANK

I am so angry and frustrated right now, I can't stand it. On Saturday, my ex-husband and my daughter deposited my support check in my bank account so I could get some bills paid. It was a sizable check and should cover a lot of my expenses this month. Well, because it was a Saturday, "a convenience day" and Monday was a holiday, the check wasn't counted as deposited until yesterday (Tuesday) and the money wasn't available until this morning. I didn't know this. And I used my check card. I went to the grocery store last night and attempted to purchase $125 in groceries and my card was rejected. I was shocked because I KNEW there was over $800 in my account! So this morning I called the bank to find out why and she told me about the money not really being available until today... and then informed me there was LOTS of overage charges! Approximately $500 worth of overage charges!!!! You know, it's funny (not really) that the deposit isn't available over the weekend but the charges get counted immediately, even if it's a Sunday or a holiday. That money was supposed to pay the electric bill, the cell phone bill, couple of credit cards. I can't afford for my bank to be playing these games with me. The bank lady is supposed to call me back and I sure hope she gets rid of those overage charges. I think I need to ask my ex to go back to direct deposit. At least then, when the money is deposited, it's available right away.

That sucks. I'm sorry you have to go through this crap.

Gotta love that. You're right. How convenient the charges count right away but the deposits don't? Don't back down on this. You are right. If I have to call them myself, I will, really. These banks. First they lose millions of dollars and we have to pay for that and now they need to make more money and we have to pay for that too

Who needs this crap! It's enough to make you want to go back to cashh under the mattress. I hope the bank backs down.

UPDATE:
They took away the overage charges.
Now I know to make sure I wait a day to use any of the money. I think I'm going to ask Greg to do the direct deposit thing again. He used to give me the suport checks that way but since he changed jobs, he writes me a check and usually leaves it on my desk when he comes to see Dani.

I have bank problems too. I love when I don't know I'm overdrawn and the bank keeps charging me everyday! It's ridiculous.

Joanie! That sucks so bad I can hear the sound all the way in Florida! Is there any way you can establish an credit line with your bank for overdraft protection? That way, if something like this happens in the future, they will just dip into your credit line to cover the overages.

Poor girl. Nothing makes me madder than banks that get bailed out only to screw their customers who have NO HOPE of realizing the same favors. Maybe you can appeal to a grievance board at the bank. Or better yet - rob it and get your money back. They deserve it... assholes!

Fight it Joanie because in these times banks want to keep customers. Tell them you are moving banks immediately if they dont do something about the charges. Yes, and tell your ex to do direct deposit. He could do it online surely? Oh I feel for you I do and have been there before too!

I think bankers rank right up there with insurance companies. Glad you were able to get them to reverse the charges.

I talked to Greg yesterday and he's going to try to do direct deposit. the problem is I usually get a check every other week, but for now, he's paying the mortgage and deducting it from my support (I'm supposed to pay the mortgage with that money and he got tired of me paying it late and messing with his credit). So now I'm getting a check every other payday for him. He's not sure if he can do a direct deposit every other paycheck. If he can't, he said he'll make sure I get it before the weekend so the check clears faster. Usually he leaves it on my desk when he comes here to see Dani.
