Spin Cycle: Jealousy: Green-eyed Monster

This week's Spin Cycle is all about that Green-eyed Monster we call Jealousy. Actually I have 2 short stories about jealousy.

My first spin is a rather silly one. It's silly because I was jealous of a new-born baby. Yes, post-partum stuff made me jealous of my first-born child, Regina Frances. I think Gina was only a few weeks old and I heard her Daddy talking to her and cooing at her, and that was just fine. Then I heard him call her his favorite girl.
WHAT??? I thought **I** was his favorite girl!

Now I wasn't some young new mommy. I was just shy of my 29th birthday when Gina was born. I knew it was crazy to be jealous of a baby, MY baby, but I couldn't help it! I remember crying and Greg wanted to know what was wrong. I was really embarrassed to tell him that I was jealous that I had lost my standing as his favorite girl. I'm sure h
e rolled his eyes and sighed a big sigh. From that day on, Gina was his favorite blue-eyed girl and I was his favorite brown-eyed girl. Sheesh! I really needed to get over myself!

********************************************

The second spin also involves Gina, but also her brother, Tim. Gina was 6 years old, in first grade and at school when this happened. When I was 8 months pregnant with Danielle, my youngest, Tim, who was 2 1/2 years old at the time, came running into the kitchen to tell me something. I was standing at the open refrigerator door and as I turned towards him, he tripped over my foot and crashed head-on into the corner of the wall going into the dining room an
d split his head open! Blood was gushing everywhere! My neighbor agrees to get Gina off the bus after school.

So, I get Timmy into the car and drive him to the ER. Here I am, 8 months pregnant, waddling in with a toddler with blood gushing everywhere from a gaping wound on his forehead. The nurse takes him straight back to get stitched up and they have to put Tim in a papoose to immobilize him to do the stiches and they tell me, "this is where we ask you to wait outside." Don't have to ask me twice!!! I'll be right out there! I'd have my ass pas
sed right out on the floor if I had to see what they were going to do.

So Timmy gets his stitches, a lollypop, a bunch of stickers and a really cool bandaid on his forehead and we head on home. Now Timmy is the center of attention and Gina does not like this. one. little. bit. Our neighbors have come by and given Timmy a book, some candy, a toy. For Gina? nada.

Later that day, I walk into the kitchen and what do I see? Gina, standing at the very same wall where Timmy split his head open, banging her head against the wall, trying to split her head open so she, too, can get a cool bandaid, and toys and candy and stickers! Is it any wonder the g
irl grew up to get her degree in Theatre????

Below is a picture of Gina and Timmy, in their Christmas Photo with his stitches. The man at Sears kept trying to cover it up with a Santa hat, and I stopped him. I knew that picture would come in handy some day!

I smiled at your first story - ah, what those post-delivery hormones will do to you - and out-and-out laughed at your second.

Kids - you gotta love them. And yours were too cute when they were little; I bet they're gorgeous now!

you have beautiful children! Good Post - we've all had to deal with the Green Eyed Monster haven't we?

Oh Joanie! You always manage to make me squeak! Your stories are too funny. I totally get the jealousy thing, but I'm sure you probably could chalk that up to hormones. The head splitting event though? That's a lil extreme in the drama department for a cool band aid. Gotta give Gina points for being observant.

Sending love and wellness wishes your (and John's) way.

Oh, so cute! I love these stories! I was going to go one way with my Spin, but I may need to ask my mom and dad if they remember anything between my sister and me. You're linked!

Yeah, I've had enough serious posts this past week. It's time to lighten things up a bit... at least until mid-July when the next round of chemo starts.
I hope you all get a chuckle or two from my spins today.

Joanie, what a post! I am in "stitches" about the second story!
That is something I would have done when my sister and I were little, for candy, attention, or maybe a cool band-aid.

Look at those big eyes on Gina! Your stories cracked me up.

Both those stories are so funny. Your kids were cutie pies.
I remember feeling jealous of the way my mom talked to the cat when I was a kid, so you definitely get a free pass for being post-partum and jealous of your baby!

I am laughing out loud! Great stories.

What cute stories! I remember all kinds of wild mood swings after I had my first, and wondered why nobody ever asked how I was doing anymore!

What a cute little drama-queen you have - and good for you for refusing the Santa hat. It's much better to have evidence of how things really were (and he's adorable!)

A button is a great idea! Unfortunately, I have no idea how to make one! Help?

So what did you do when you found Gina bashing her head?

Yep, second was a good laugh :))

Those are great stories ...

Kid s really do have a way of not liking when their sibling is in the spotlight!

That first one sound familiar. Ever have those days when you wouldn't let anyone hold the baby, because you'd fade into the background?

The second story was hysterical (though probably not at the time!) She sounds like a hoot (and an observant one at that!)

I swear that my decision making about whether or not I want kids takes one step forward and six steps back. I almost decided that MAYBE I could CONSIDER the idea of kids.... and then I read your blog. I would freak too if I felt the new cutie patootie baby was the hubby's favorite. Especially after all the work pushing her out!!!
